One of the Consorcio’s first acts has been to introduce a plan for revitalising culture and tourism along the Spanish-Portuguese border, the Plan de Dinamización Cultural y Turística del Espacio Rayano Hispano-Luso.

This Plan provides for a series of schemes based on the initial definition and identification of the tourist product “Ciudades Amuralladas / Walled Cities”, with the idea being to foster the promotion, dissemination and awareness of the local resources that provide the border area within its remit with its own particular nature.
The Revitalisation Plan was presented to the Interreg III Community Initiative in July 2005 and was subsequently approved in in December that same year, within the 3rd call of the aforesaid Initiative.

Amongst the schemes considered, highlights are the creation of a Visitors Centre that will channel the flow of tourists, the full sign-posting of monuments, the preparation of promotional material, the attendance of tourism trade fairs and the arrangement of an

                                        extensive advertising campaign.
The timeframe for implementing the Plan covers the years 2006 and 2007, and it will be financed with funds provided by the European Union (ERDF).
